From weeks ago, Netscape release the six edition of its famous communicator. This new version is available for Windows, Mac and Linux platforms (also included in FTLinuxCourse en in the dir Netscape60). Its offers a new look on Linux, generally without a full plug-in support in the past, for Macromedia Shockwave and others plug-in, full available on the Windows and   Mac, platforms.

The new look is the following:

Like we see, is a new and innovative look. When a page is loading appears a progress bar like on the Mac edition.

A new taskbar (in the bootom), is also available offering new channels of information, for Shopping, news and others, etc.

At last is possible to browse the filesystem and see a first level in the hierarchy of the filesystem, like we observe in the figure:

Is also included a "SideBar", on the left side to choose different information areas: "CNN.com" or "My Stocks" ...

Also the look to send messages is more beautiful!

The new version will have a native support for Macromedia Schokwave plug-in (not supported at the moment) and handle from now, "Full Circle Software" agents.
 

Configuring Netscape Communicator

The Netscape Communicator is the classical OSF/Motif (or X) Application, with its menu.
 
 

		This menu for "File". Is also possible to edit a specific frame as well as print. From this menu is also possible to "Close" or "Exit"

This is the menu for "Edit" You have an "Undo", "Cut", "Copy" ... You can also Find words in the page and open the Preference, that we will cover later.

 

		This menu for "View". You can add or remove the three bars. Reload Refresh Open the HTML Source and visualize scripts ...     You can also view files in Korean, Japanese, Chinese and other languages. For example for Japanese is usefull load the Japanese (Auto-Detect)

This is the menu for "Go" You can go back to the previous page, forward in the browsed pages... and home.

This is the menu for "Communicator" You can launch the Navigator, Composer, Messenger and Radio. This menu is present in each Netscape program. You can load the bookmarks. From this menu is also possible load the history and Java Console
