I read the 1990 edition, eight years ago. 

Today is not necessary read a Xlib or a X-Toolkit book like this to learn X-Programming. 

You can read the new edition of this book to learn the "in-depth" X Toolkit. 

If you want to develop X Applications, quickly, use CDE Developer Edition, and read their manuals.

This is an "old" edition of the Motif Programming Manual. 

Dan Heller is the author of Z-Mail program and in this book he explain step-by-step, how to develop Motif applications. 

In different cases he explain us the techniques used to develop their excellent program.

    I think that this book is a good book, but its touch some "depth" topics like Source Code Management, to control programs, that I think have no sense in a first course on Linux. Its include also a chapter on the zsh.
